According to a
“best guess” consensus arrived at by various dental health organizations across
the world, the average person is best off visiting their dentist at least twice
a year for regular check-ups. We, the average people of Cochin however, aren’t
used to following advice from various dental health organizations across the
world and I daresay aren’t going to be anytime soon. We visit the dentist if
and when we have a toothache and that’s already doing too much. Cosmetic
dentistry though is a good sell among us, even if half of us may not know what
it is, but is there any way to explain it?
There is no
doubt the human mind interprets the concept of beauty in peculiar ways.
Although the much repeated and well remembered saying suggests beauty is an
intrinsic value by claiming that it lies in the eye on the beholder, there is
unending evidence to the contrary. We all generally find the same people
attractive - several theories have been floated as to the cause of this - an
interesting one relating the proportion and spacing of facial features to the
'golden ratio' - different colors and their combinations create similar
feelings in us - green and blue tones have been named 'soothing' while yellow
and red are 'burning'- and these generalities extend to our perception of all
objects from buildings to cars and trees and furniture. Despite the undersell,
we do realise personal preference plays a huge role in deciding what we all
find to be beautiful and not. These preferences usually discriminate against
nuances; favouring some and disliking others. And finally, there are those
little details of universal disapproval that can drown the charm away from
something that is otherwise perfect; a botched tail light on a car, an oddly
positioned window on a building front and more than anything else, faulty teeth
revealed in a smile.
So, what is
cosmetic dentistry? Cosmetic dentistry is a non-medical field of dentistry that
covers all procedures and treatments aimed at improving or enhancing the
appearance of teeth. This includes the correction of irregular teeth such as
teeth with gap(s), broken teeth and misshapen teeth. Although these “faults”
may seem serious, in medical terms, they are not necessarily indicators of bad
health. In some dental treatments, the ‘cosmetic’ element isn’t separable from
the medical aspect, as described by Dr. Balu Soman of Soman’s Cosmetic Dental
Clinic, Cochin. Dr. Soman has run his Dental Clinic for over forty years,
providing cosmetic dental treatment in Cochin and opening two additional
locations over the decades. In earlier years, silver amalgam was used to fill
decayed teeth but it was chosen purely for its functionality. Nowadays, the
development of composites that are made to replicate the color and texture of
teeth are used.Read more_http://somanscosmeticdental.com/
